Humboldt Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity (HAPI) invites the public to a free presentation and book signing by author Debbie Chinn, at the Clarke Historical Museum, Eureka, CA, Monday, August 22, 2-4 p.m. . Chinn will talk about her recent book, Dancing in Their Light: A Daughter’s Unfinished Memoir, which tells the story of a “proud daughter” of immigrant parents, who grew up and performed at her family’s famous Polynesian nightclub. , and the legacy of his family’s many contributions to the American Cultural and International Scientific Landscape — from pig moo shu to NASA’s “vomit comet.” Chinn has had a “distinguished 30-year career as an arts activist, nonprofit consultant, and CEO…advocating for equity and inclusion.” Originally intending to document her family’s remarkable journey as immigrants to New York, with the renewed rise of anti-immigrant and anti-Asian vitriol, Chinn felt it was particularly timely to share what a family could do to assimilate, make meaningful contributions, and fill the broader American culture at a time when the Chinese were unwelcome.
