Detroit Historical Museum Hosts FREE Family Day

Travel back in time and visit the Midtown Cultural Center to explore the Detroit Historical Museum. The museum offers FREE admission on Saturday June 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. family fun day.

If you think history isn’t fun, you haven’t been to the Detroit Historical Museum. The museum brings Detroit’s history to life in a fun, innovative and interactive way that will appeal to all ages. Start your tour on the ground floor and wander the streets of old Detroit. Stop at stores like Strohs and Kresge to see what life was like over 100 years ago. You can also watch and participate in the model train display. The lower level also houses a temporary exhibition space, currently you can experience Boom Town Detroit – life in the 1920s.

The main level of the museum takes visitors on specific journeys to Detroit’s past: the frontier, the Underground Railroad, the arsenal of democracy, and the civil unrest of the 1960s. You’ll also find exhibits and interactive exhibits featuring the things (cars) and people (temptations) you know and love in the Motor City and Motor City Music galleries.

Let the past inspire your future in the Innovation Gallery. Discover the scientists and engineers who shaped our world and have fun creating cars on the interactive touch screens. You’ll also find the Tribute to Electronic Music Festival with exhibits and music for a family dance party in the community gallery.

Museum tickets can be pre-booked online. Admission is $10 for guests ages 7 and up. Children 6 and under are FREE!

• Monday Wednesday: Firm
• Thursday – Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Sunday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Car park: When you visit the museum, you can park in front of the museum on Kirby Street (download the ParkDetroit App) or in the parking lot next to the museum on Kirby Street. There is a flat rate of $9 during museum hours.
