DuPage County Historical Museum Wins Building Improvement Grant – Shaw Local

WHEATON – The District of Wheaton Park recently received a $750,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to pursue a project to stabilize the masonry and reconstruct the gutters of the DuPage County Historical Museum building in Wheaton .

The historic 1891 building originally housed the Adams Memorial Library and currently houses historical exhibits, artifacts and archives that help tell the story of the county’s history, according to a news release. The museum is operated as a Wheaton Park District facility and is owned by the county.

The grant will be issued through IDNR’s Museum Capital Grants Program.

“The quality of your plans to improve museum opportunities for Illinois citizens is recognized by your selection in this year’s highly competitive selection process,” wrote Gary Eicken, Chief of Support Office at managing IDNR grants, in a letter to the Wheaton Park District Executive. Director Michel Bénard. “Congratulations on being a successful candidate and thank you for your dedicated efforts to enhance cultural and educational opportunities in Illinois.”

The museum is located at 102 E. Wesley St. in Wheaton.

“The much-needed repairs to the DuPage County Historical Museum building, made possible by this generous grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, will ensure county residents and visitors continue to benefit greatly from the exemplary programs and exhibits of the museum for years to come.
