Lockwood de Forest at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum

It’s your last chance to see this excellent exhibition of oil paintings by Lockwood de Forest this weekend. Dedicated to Kathleen and Oswald Da Ros and mainly drawn from their collection, light the way shows the great forerunner of the Santa Barbara school of outdoor painting at the height of its powers. In addition to multiple strong examples of the artist’s familiar small works, there are several large, imposing canvases saturated with light and color. The artist’s gift for enhancing the area’s natural beauty created the cult of beautiful Santa Barbara that painters and locals alike still revere today.
