Madison County outlines series of upcoming historic events

Here is a list of upcoming historic events in the upcoming months in the Madison County area:
Monday, February 7 at 4 p.m., the Hamilton Public Library will host a special interview with Korean War veteran Russell Chase. Chase will discuss his military experiences in Japan and Korea with Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz. There is no charge for this event. For more information, call 315-366-2453.
Sunday February 13 From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Lorenzo’s Driving Show will host “Horses and Hot Chocolate” on the grounds of the Lorenzo State Historic Site in Cazenovia. Come visit the miniature horses or take a photo with a real Fjord horse – just like Sitron in “Frozen”. There will be special gifts, a hot drink and a chance to visit Lorenzo’s second and rarely seen collection of carriages. Donate $10 or more and get a free beer from Meier’s Creek Brewing Company and enter a raffle for a basket of winter treats. There is no charge for this event. Sunday February 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the New York State Draft Horse Club will be at the Lorenzo State Historic Site offering horse-drawn carriage or sleigh rides. Come for a winter walk. This event is free, but donations are accepted. For more information, call Lorenzo at 315-655-3200.
Wednesday February 23 At 7 p.m., Cazenovia Heritage will host a special presentation titled “Abolitionists of Cazenovia and Madison County” by Madison County Historian Matt Urtz. Urtz will talk about some of the significant events, people and places related to the abolitionist movement in Cazenovia and Madison County. There is no charge for this event. Wednesdays March 2 and March 23 At 6:00 p.m., the Oneida Community Mansion House will host a six-part reading and discussion group on “Votes for Women!” OCMH Director of Museum Affairs Tom Guiler will lead the panel discussion, which will include reading a text every three weeks with a follow-up discussion. The program is free. As the number of places is limited, participants are encouraged to register in advance. Thursday March 30 At 7 p.m., Cazenovia Heritage will host a special presentation titled “Women of Cazenovia and Madison County” by Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz at the First Presbyterian Church Meeting House in Cazenovia. Urtz will speak about some of the most important women in Madison County and Cazenovia history and their impact on their local communities, New York State and the United States.
