Peter Lahmann reads the names of members of the Japanese-American community who boarded a train bound for the War Relocation Authority internment camp. A Remembrance Day event was held Saturday afternoon at the Lewis County Historical Museum in Chehalis. Fifty-three Japanese Americans departed the Chehalis Railroad Depot on Tuesday, June 2, 1942, on a train bound for Tule Lake, Calif., to be held at a “Japanese Assembly Center.” The 53 Americans were the entire Japanese-born population of Lewis County, including the American-born and foreign-born population. Lewis County residents were joined by 47 Japanese Americans from Pacific County.
