The Southold Historical Museum has launched its annual call for artists to participate this year ten squared Art Show, a special non-juried fundraising exhibition featuring 10 x 10 inch artwork that will sell for $100, to be split equally between the artist and the museum. It’s an opportunity for a wide range of performers to show without the gatekeepers deciding who can or can’t take part in the show.
From November 15 to December 15, the theme of this year’s late autumn exhibition and online sale is Ten Squared: A Season for Arta change from last year’s “Winter Pleasures” theme.
“Late autumn is a time for people to collect art for a cozy home in the colder winter months,” the Southold History Museum said in an email appeal to artists. , adding, “Hanging artwork at eye level creates an element of instant warmth and comfort in a home, and it invites guests to get to know the owner and their family history more intimately.
Ahead of the 2021 exhibition, Southold Historical Museum Executive Director Deanna Witte-Walker explained what makes this particular event so special for artists and collectors. “The artists appreciate it and it’s not a jury, so it’s really the artists’ interpretation of the theme,” Witte-Walker said, adding, “We all get different works, we get different works from younger people, to very skilled, well-known artists – we have a whole range of different interests and levels.
Submit to Ten Squared
Artists are invited to submit up to three works measuring 10 square inches (hence the title Ten Squared), not including the thin frame. All mediums are accepted. Works must be dry and ready to hang.
