The St. Clair Historical Museum will present a presentation on Prohibition

Stories, photos and interviews about local liquor, beer and bootlegging will highlight the St. Clair Historical Museum’s presentation entitled “Bluewater Prohibition; St. Clair River Area Liquor and Bootleg Stories” May 19-20 at the St. Clair Community Center.

“Detroit is getting a lot of attention, but the local stories we’ll be telling about homebrew, moonshine, speakeasies, rum and smuggling on the St. Clair River are more interesting,” said local historian Bob Freehan, who will present the program. in a recent press release. “Most of the activity in this area revolved around local families, not big-name gangs.”

The presentation marks the return of regular St. Clair Historical Museum presentations since COVID-19 put an end to large group gatherings.

“Our presentations are fun because they’re open-mic, giving the audience the opportunity to add any family stories they might have related to the topic,” Freehan said.

The hour-long program will be presented at 7 p.m. May 19 and repeated at 1 p.m. May 20 in the St. Clair Community Center Room in the museum building, located at 308 S. 4th St. The cost of the donation is $6; students can enter for free. Refreshments will be served.

VALOR League to Host Armed Forces Day Dinner

The VALOR League will be presenting an Armed Forces Day Dinner from 5-7 p.m. May 21 at Algonac VFW Post 3901, located at 1005 Pointe Tremble Road in Algonac.

Dinner will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., or until the food runs out. The menu will consist of rolled stuffed pork loin, roast turkey, mostaccioli, real mashed potatoes, corn, salad, rolls, dessert, coffee, tea and soda.

The cost is a minimum donation of $12 for adults and a minimum donation of $8 for children ages 4-10.

First United Methodist Church of St. Clair UMW to Hold Dig and Bake Sale

The St. Clair First United Methodist Church United Methodist Women is holding its annual dig and bake sale in 2022 and is accepting reasonable donations for items.

The indoor sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 20 and from 9 a.m. to noon on May 21 and various items will be available. Funds raised for UMW are distributed throughout St. Clair County.

“We are donating locally to the St. Clair County Child Abuse and Neglect Council’s annual Roof Sit, Services for Children in Need and the St. Clair Ecumenical Pantry,” said UMW President Cheryl Bedard. , in a recent press release. “Personal hygiene kits have been provided to schools (Port Huron area school district), Central Middle, Fort Gratiot and Holland Wood, Marysville Middle School, (East China School District) Marine City and St. Clair middle schools . Globally, UMW recently donated to Operation Smile.

UMW is responsible for raising its own operating funds and outreach.

“Historically, UMW cares for women and children,” Bedard said.

Within the church, UMW provides Mother’s Day flowers, Father’s Day treats, and Christmas Advent Tea entertainment. UMW scholarships for senior graduates and university students are available.

Marine Town Beautification Day, flower sale to benefit the garden club

The 14th Annual Marine City Beautification Day and Flower Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 20-21 and beginning at 9 a.m. May 22 at the historic Marine City Town Hall, located at 300 , Broadway St.

A Horseshoe Tournament to benefit Marine City Maritime Days will be held May 21 at Winner’s Circle Bar & Grill, located at 5879 Shea Road in Cottrellville Township.

The tournament is in a double elimination format. Prizes, a 50/50 raffle, basket raffles and a cash bar will be available.
