[ad_1]

The Tulare Historical Museum will celebrate Portuguese Heritage Month this year with a guest speaker from Fresno State, a historical exhibit on the 9 Azores Islands and its people, Portuguese entertainment and authentic Portuguese desserts, cheeses and wines. The festivities are scheduled for Saturday, June 4 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

THM is honored to work with Mr. Diniz Borges, Portuguese language teacher at Fresno State. He is also director of the Portuguese Institute Beyond Borders. His lecture will begin at 12:30 p.m. in our Heritage Art Gallery, where he will discuss the Azores, its people, history and traditions, and the Kingdom of Portugal.

Portuguese folk music by Michael Vieira is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. Audiences will enjoy a performance that evokes the charm and mystique of the distant land of Portugal.

The historical exhibition Portugal and the 9 islands of the Azores: a history, a friendship and its inhabitants, will be on view in the museum’s Depot Gallery throughout the month of June. The exhibits were generously loaned to the museum by Carmen Pinheiro, president of the Tulare Angra Do Heroismo Sister City Foundation. The foundation also offers authentic Portuguese desserts, cheese and wine, which represent the islands of the Azores.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information visit our website at www.tularehistoricalmuseum.org.
